Balholm Apple brandy 6666 In 1833 Henrik Forman planted 6666 apple trees in the farm in Stedje in Sogndal. Sogn was thus the greatest fruit orchard in the Nordic region. At times the crops was so big that the people could pay their yearly taxes with fruit. Today apple brandy is most known as French Calvados, German Obstler or English Apple Brandy. Balholm Apple Brandy is distilled from a mixture of around 20 apple varieties, and we have used the whole fruit with peal and pulp, so that there will be a distinctive apple aroma that is integrated with a mark of oak after storing in French barrels. Sogn Aqua Vitae - organic apple with caraway Sogn Aqua Vitae is distilled from cider of chosen apple varieties that is grown organically in the orchard by Ciderhuset. Aqua Vitae (the water of life) were in medieval times used as a common name for all types of liquor. In Sogn we grew apples 600 years before the potato came to the country, and it is therefore natural to use apples and not earth-apples (potatoes) when precious beverages shall be made. After short storing in French oak barrels, it is developed a food-liquor with mild apple aroma and a light touch of cumin and dry vanilla. Norwegian organic Plum brandy – stored in oak barrels Plum Brandy is today mostly known as Slivovic from Balkan. Balholm Plum Brandy is distilled from juicy organic plums from the orchard by Ciderhuset. We have chosen a mixture of five tasteful varieties and have used the whole fruit with the stone. In that was a clear plum aroma with a touch of almond and dry vanilla-finish is developed after storing in French oak barrels. Blackcurrant grappa Blackcurrant lemonade and jam was in its time made in almost all homes. Today we know that blackcurrant contains a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants, as well as having a great aroma. Balholm Blackcurrand Eau-de-vie is burned from whole blackcurrants with the stem. This gives liquor with distinctive blackcurrant aroma, and some sort of herb-like grappa-touch that suits many of the same situations as aqua vitae, or as basis for fruit drinks – and in blackcurrant toddy!
